Night Kitchen Windsor School Chair
Maple, Ash Spindles, Milk Paint, Tung Oil
Spring 2025
The Night Kitchen Chair utilizes traditional Windsor construction to translate mass-produced plywood school chairs into hand-carved solid wood. A small character hides within the chair and leads viewers around the non-linear narrative painted onto the surfaces. The chair becomes a 3-dimensional picture book, taking inspiration from its namesake book by Maurice Sendak where the scale of food objects overwhelm the characters. This scale reframes common food systems into a built environment, placing viewers viscerally into their role in the demand and relationship to food products.
